Scholarships

Students who apply are considered for all scholarships for which they are eligible. For most (but not all) scholarships, applicants should have a minimum overall 3.0 GPA, 15 semester hours of Government coursework completed, and be in good standing with the University. See individual scholarships for eligibility criteria. Scholarships are awarded in the spring semester for the following academic year.

Please note that all scholarships may not be awarded every academic year.

Amount: Historically up to $4,000 Eligibility: Government majors from south Texas who are in good standing and have demonstrated financial need. Preference is given to graduates of McAllen Memorial High School.

Amount: Historically up to $1,000 Eligibility: Upper-division Liberal Arts, Government major with a grade point average of at least 3.50; must be accepted into the departmental Honors Tutorial Program.

Amount: Historically up to $4,000 Eligibility: The selected students should have demonstrated financial need, with a preference to students having an interest in pursuing some aspect of democratic studies.

Amount: Historically up to $2,500 Eligibility: Outstanding upper-division student majoring in government; 3.5 overall UT GPA; 3.75 GOV GPA.

Amount: Historically up to Up to $2,500 Eligibility: Government student in good standing; study abroad for summer or following academic year; and study in South or Southeast Asia.

Amount: Historically up to $4,000 Eligibility: Government major with demonstrated financial need; an overall grade point average of at least 2.50; and a grade point average of at least 3.00 in government courses.

Amount: Historically up to $1,000 Eligibility: Outstanding upper-division student majoring in government; 3.5 overall UT GPA; 3.75 GOV GPA; 15 hours of GOV coursework completed or in progress.
